Additional Judicial Districts to Host Free Legal Resource Days Events

Oct. 17, 2024, DENVER— Three additional Colorado Judicial Districts will hold Free Legal Resource Day events the week of Oct. 21, 2024. Residents in the 3rd, 8th, and 17th Judicial Districts can attend educational seminars and Ask-An-Attorney sessions in the Colorado cities of Trinidad, Fort Collins and Brighton.

The Judicial Department is committed to equipping self-represented litigants with the information and education they need to be prepared to appear before a judge and answer questions about evictions, family law, sealing a criminal case, small claims or other legal matters. At Legal Resource Days events, volunteer lawyers and others offer free informational and educational sessions to those representing themselves. 

Times and types of sessions vary by location. Spanish interpreters will be available, and all sessions are free. Registration is required for some sessions.

  • 3rd Judicial District (Huerfano and Las Animas counties): The Third Judicial District, Access to Justice Committee is sponsoring this free community event on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Space to Create (204 W. Main Street, Trinidad). Participants can schedule a free one-on-one appointment with a volunteer attorney or attend an expert-led seminar on foreclosures, guardianship and protective proceedings, or family law. Free 20-minute Ask-An-Attorney consultations are available by calling 719-497-8246 or 719-497-8252 to schedule an appointment. Attorney sessions will cover courtroom procedures, collections and garnishments, divorce, custody, child support, estate planning, guardianship and conservatorship, case sealing, landlord-tenant issues, and small claims. 
  • 8th Judicial District (Jackson and Larimer counties): Participants can sign up for free 30-minute in-person or virtual Ask-A-Lawyer sessions on Friday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Larimer County Justice Center (201 LaPorte Avenue, Fort Collins).   • 17th Judicial District (Adams and Broomfield counties): An in-person event will take place on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024, at the Adams County Justice Center (1100 Judicial Center Drive, Brighton) from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Free 15-minute Meet-A-Lawyer sessions will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, covering topics of domestic relations, custody, child support, civil protection orders, landlord/tenant, traffic, juvenile, criminal, and estate planning. Assistance and information about completing required court forms will also be available, along with various community resource representatives who will be on site.
