Colorado Judicial Branch opens application process for Family Violence Justice Fund grants

Wednesday, June 8, 2022
DENVER – The Colorado Judicial Branch announced today it has opened the application process for Fiscal Year 2023 grants from the Family Violence Justice Fund. This grant program was created by the General Assembly in 1999 to provide funding to nonprofit organizations that offer civil legal services to low-income persons who are experiencing family violence. Successful grant recipients must be prepared to provide full legal services, including assistance with divorce, legal separation, child custody, child support, and other related civil matters.

Funding available for the upcoming grant cycle totals $2.1 million. In Fiscal Year 2022, 16 organizations received grants totaling $1.94 million. In addition to providing direct legal representation and advice, these organizations also helped people through free legal clinics and referrals to other service providers.

Grants are awarded to qualifying organizations based on a geographic, need-driven formula that considers the number of low-income persons who may need services in each county or city and county across the State.

Application forms and additional information about the grant program are available here: https://www.courts.state.co.us/Administration/Unit.cfm?Unit=fvjfgp. Applications must be received by the State Court Administrator’s Office by 5 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022, to be considered for a grant. Applications will be accepted only by e-mail. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Please direct questions and completed applications to: FamilyViolenceJusticeFund@judicial.state.co.us.
