Judge Leutwyler was appointed to the district court on July 1, 2016 by Governor John Hickenlooper. Prior to becoming a district court judge he served as a magistrate in the 18th Judicial District, was a senior deputy district attorney in the 18th Judicial District, and an assistant district attorney in Georgia. Immediately prior to taking a role on the bench he practiced criminal defense, domestic relations, and civil litigation at the firm of Hulen & Leutwyler, LLC. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa and a law degree from Georgia State University.
Judge Leutwyler has served as the presiding criminal court judge (2018-2022), been an officer (2019-2024) and director (2017-2019) of the Arapahoe County Bar Association, a member of the Arapahoe County Bar Foundation Board of Directors (2021-2024), and a member of the advisory board for the Arapahoe Community College Paralegal Program (2021-current). In 2020 he was named the People’s Choice as best trial court judge by Law Week Colorado.
