Bio

Judge Erin Wilson was appointed to the bench by Governor Polis on March 7, 2022. Prior to her appointment, Erin worked for 8 years as a contract attorney with the Colorado Office of Alternate Defense Counsel, representing the indigent criminally accused in cases all over Colorado. Erin’s practice focused on criminal post-conviction, felony, misdemeanor, and traffic matters; however, she also represented clients in both civil and criminal matters on a pro bono or low-pay basis when they did not qualify for court appointed counsel.

Erin’s legal career began in 2003 when, based upon her academic excellence and demonstrated commitment to serving marginalized populations, Erin was awarded a Chancellor’s Scholarship to attend the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. She graduated from law school in 2006 and began working as a Deputy Public Defender in the Colorado Office of the Public Defender Fort Collins Office. She moved to Steamboat Springs from Fort Collins in 2013.

Erin attended the University of Southern California on academic scholarship and graduated cum laude and with honors in 1988, earning degrees in Journalism and International Relations. Following graduation, Erin worked for American President Lines and Canon, USA. Beginning in 1992, Erin spent 10 years as a stay-at-home mother, raising her two oldest children. In 1994, she and her young family moved to Fort Collins, Colorado from southern California.

Erin grew up in a Marine Corps family and spent her childhood living in California, Virginia, and Rhode Island. She graduated from the University of San Diego High School in 1984.

Erin now lives in Steamboat Springs with her husband and youngest daughter. Erin is dedicated to community service and is involved in local Access to Justice initiatives, serves on the Board of Northwest Colorado Health, and volunteers in the local schools and with Girl Scouts of America.
