Magistrate Barnes graduated from Baylor University School of Law in 2004 and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in American Studies from Baylor University in 2000. She began her legal career as a Deputy District Attorney for the 9th Judicial District (Garfield/Pitkin Counties) and the 17th Judicial District (Adams/Broomfield Counties) over the span of approximately seven years. Then she served as a Family Court Facilitator and a Magistrate in the 22nd Judicial District (Montezuma County). She has also represented clients in family law matters, civil matters, and criminal defense. Immediately prior to taking the bench, Magistrate Barnes represented the Mesa County of Department of Human Services for approximately 6 years in the areas of dependency and neglect, juvenile delinquency, and appeals.
