General Statement Of Duties

Conducts audits of Judicial-related operations and entities to determine the adequacy of internal controls, compliance with established criteria, and the efficiency and effectiveness of operations.

Distinguishing Factors

Staff in this position demonstrates advanced auditing skills and are able to perform complex audits with a degree of independence.

Essential Functions Of the Position

Conducts interviews and collects, reviews, and analyzes information and data in order to identify and develop audit objectives and issues.

Evaluates the relevance and importance of accounting, auditing, and management theories, concepts, and principles in order to apply them to different circumstances. 

Evaluates the reliability of reports and records and the sufficiency of operations, and assesses the degree of compliance with established policies and procedures.

Reviews and analyzes supporting documentation and information contained in, but not limited to, case files, probation records, conservator reports, personnel records, and payment vouchers.

Compiles and documents audit findings and identifies recommendations.

Discusses findings with management or judicial officers and prepares drafts of audit reports of Judicial related operations and other entities.

In-state travel to audit sites required.

Attends meetings and training as required.

Performs other duties as assigned

Supervisor Responsibilities

Responsible for one's own work product.  May also provide on-site supervision of other auditors.

Minimum Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.  Three years of performance or financial audit experience reviewing and analyzing operational and/or financial policies and procedures, preparing audit work papers, and drafting audit reports, or two years as an Auditor I within the Colorado Judicial Department.  A CPA license or a Master’s degree in accounting; judicial, public or business administration; finance or related may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.  This position is subject to varying and unpredictable situations, may handle emergency or crisis situations, is subject to many interruptions, may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously, and may occasionally handle absentee replacement on short notice.
