General Statement Of Duties

Leads in the development of implementation, research, and recommends compensation and classification solutions for the Colorado Judicial Department. 

Distinguishing Factors

The Compensation and Classification Supervisor is distinguished from other classifications by the focus on leading the compensation unit research, analysis, interpretation, and solution recommendations for compensation and classification matters that can vary in complexity and urgency and system maintenance for the Colorado Judicial Department. This classification reports to the Total Rewards Manager.

Essential Functions Of the Position

Performs duties necessary to supervise the compensation and classification program for the Colorado Judicial Department including monitoring compensation practices and recommendations to ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations such as FLSA, EEO, and the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act etc.

Ensures the unit timely response to customer requests ensuring compliance with applicable State, Federal and Judicial rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Conducts and leads complex classification and classification studies and projects, market research, market surveys and data modeling and analysis to ensure compensation objectives are achieved.

Provides classification and compensation recommendations to the Total Rewards Manager.

Assists Total Rewards Manager with implementation of new plans that coincide with compensation trends and Department objectives.

Provides classification and compensation recommendations and/or produces written narratives of findings after consulting with managers, supervisors, incumbents, and/or subject matter experts to identify major duties and responsibilities of positions.

Assist team with research and provide preliminary recommendations on compensation and classification matters for further development.

Evaluates, creates, maintains, and updates job descriptions and makes salary range recommendations.

Maintain and update the classification and compensation system(s) of record.

Performs position audits to determine appropriate compensation and job classification in accordance with the Colorado Judicial Department Personnel Rules.

Supervises and delegates work regarding day-to-day operations to staff members.

Creates reports, presentations, spreadsheets, and other materials in a timely manner.

Studies effectiveness of existing compensation and classification policies, guidelines, and procedures and makes recommendations for improvements.

Responsible for recruitment and selection of unit employees.

Attends meetings and training as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Has supervisory accountability for other employees. Plans, directs, and coordinates activities for a unit. Duties include scheduling and assigning work, training in all facets of work, quality control, and decisions impacting the pay, status, and tenure of others. Conducts performance appraisals and provides input into and participates in discipline, dismissal, and hiring processes.

Minimum Education

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

OR

Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required formal education.

Work Related Experience: 
At least three (3) years of human resources, compensation, or closely related experience. 

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms and perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

This position is subject to many interruptions and may be required to handle multiple calls and inquiries at once. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
