General Statement Of Duties

Summary of Job Classification:
Assists the Administrator of Judicial Security in developing and administering programs and processes for the security of judicial property and staff and the emergency preparedness of the Colorado Judicial Department.

Essential Functions Of the Position

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function listed below satisfactorily. Liaison for county governments and state and local law enforcement agencies regarding the safety and security-related measures and functions in Department workplaces.

Assists in identifying and implementing new policies and procedures; assists with the implementation with county governments and other state agencies to ensure security of Department personnel and property.

Builds and maintains professional relationships with Judges, County Commissioners, and Sheriff’s personnel in assigned counties.

Provide personal security to judicial officers as needed, including development of strategies and providing physical security as assigned.

Assists with or leads training on emergency preparedness for Department personnel.  May assist in providing interdepartmental training.

Assists with the management and use of security-related software applications for the Department.

Works with internal and external stakeholders to address security risks, enhance security and safety preparedness and coordinate the use of several security systems at Department workplaces. 

Helps prepare reports, schedules, forms, and other documents and information based upon research and evaluation of issues and problems as needed.  Maintains appropriate administrative records associated with courthouse security.

Assists with coordination of safety and security investigations and response with state and local law enforcement agencies, as needed. 

Performs statutory duties of a certified peace officer, including the confidential sharing of information with law enforcement without supervision from the Department.

Frequent travel to various judicial facilities within assigned districts as needed.

Attends meetings and trainings as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others. 

Minimum Education

Associate degree or certificate program in law enforcement or similarly situated program. Must be able to pass a psychological examination and medical assessment associated with POST certification. Completion of a POST-approved Basic Academy required.

OR

Additional relevant work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal 
education. 

Work Related Experience: 
Minimum (3) years working in a similar position or related field is required

Licenses and Certifications: 
POST certification required within one (1) year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: 
A bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or related field is preferred. Specialization in court security work preferred. POST certification preferred.

Physical Demands

Medium Work - Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.

Work Environment:
Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Occasional outside work.

Work Location:
Office or similar indoor environment.
