General Statement Of Duties

Summary of Job Classification:
Supports a Chief Probation Officer in managing department operations, conducting special projects, and leading committees and workgroups. Assists in establishing department operating procedures and monitoring the quality of the department's work. Serves as a resource to Probation Supervisors for problem solving, coaching, and unit coverage.

Essential Functions Of the Position

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform assigned essential function listed below satisfactorily. Oversees the work of Probation Supervisors and administrative support staff, including hiring, coaching, training, scheduling work, and conducting performance evaluations.

Supports department operations and special projects. Assists in establishing department operating procedures and monitors quality of department work product.

Ensures adherence to local policy, Judicial personnel rules, and Probation Standards. Acts as a key member of all department initiatives and program implementation and serves as the liaison between partnering agencies and probation.

Manages department quality control activities and data management, including creating quality assurance and control tools and the use of local and state data tools to assist leadership team in data driven decision making.

Maintains effective working relationship with the State Court Administrators office, other units, law enforcement agencies, public and private social service agencies, and community resources.

Performs contract management, including establishing new and existing contracts, updating requirements, noting specialized areas, establishing appropriate price ranges, and finalizing each contract.

Facilitates and attends a variety of meetings and provides oversight and review of committees and workgroup decisions.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Work requires managing and monitoring work performance of an organizational unit (i.e. Human Resources) or key work area including evaluating program/work objectives and effectiveness, establishing broad organizational goals, realigning work, and staffing assignments for the functional area. The work performed by majority of employees is complex.

Minimum Education

Education and Experience Equivalency:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field.

OR

Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education.

Work Related Experience: 
5 to 7 years of experience in criminal justice or human services.

Licenses and Certifications: 
Successful completion of required academies and training, including supervisory training and ongoing professional development.

Physical Demands

Physical Effort Requirements:
Medium Work- Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
