General Statement Of Duties

Summary of Job Classification:
Performs specialized water court functions, including coordination, division support, case processing, and customer service. Processes water case proceedings from start to finish.

Essential Functions Of the Position

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform assigned essential functions listed below satisfactorily. Performs specialized and statue-required water clerk functions; manages and processes all water filings for the Water Court.

Enters, maintains, and updates electronic and paper files and records docketing system. Verifies accuracy of data, assesses filing fees, and tracks and reviews open water cases using court reports.

Drafts and issues court correspondence, documentation, and notices.

Maintains accurate electronic and paper-form records of water court cases, including spreadsheets, folders, and subsequent statistics. Digitizes files as appropriate. Certifies documentation and fulfills copy requests.

Manages referee and water court trial calendars and schedule cases. Ensures proceedings run efficiently in terms of time and resources. Prepares courtrooms for proceedings, including testing the recording system.

Processes referee rulings and court orders. Reviews cases for diligence due and processes cancellation of water right orders. Processes transfer of conditional water rights.

Maintains records of all proceedings related to water rights. Prepares a monthly summary of all applications filed in the water division. Publishes a copy on the water court's website.

Provides notices of deadline of diligence due to water rights owner by certified mail.

Assists stakeholders with complex water filings process, in-person, phone, or email. Processes water docket receipts required for Division of Water Resource water permit applications. Completes with records inquires and requests.

Assists attorney offices, external agencies, and other court stakeholders with inquires and requests. 

Attends meetings and training as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibilities

Work requires the occasional direction of helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, or temporary employees. The work performed by majority of employees is semi complex.

Minimum Education

Education and Experience Equivalency:
High school diploma or G.E.D

OR

Additional work experience in these or other related fields may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required formal education.

Work Related Experience: 
3 to 5 years of experience in a paralegal or related administrative field.

None.

Physical Effort Requirements:
Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally.
