The Eighteenth Judicial District was established in 1962. In 1964 Arapahoe and Douglas were the only two counties within the district followed by Elbert County twenty days later,  and Lincoln County in 1969.

Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln County currently make up the 18th Judicial District. Today there are 52 judicial officers in the Eighteenth Judicial District and five court locations.
