The San Miguel Combined Courts (District and County) are located in the historic San Miguel County Courthouse at 305 West Colorado Avenue (Main Street), in Telluride, Colorado. The original San Miguel County Courthouse was built in 1885-1886, and was located on the southeast corner of Main and Fir Streets. Fire destroyed the building on March 9, 1887. Bricks were salvaged to rebuild the present courthouse. The courthouse is unique as it is a two story red brick structure, featuring a tower clock. On the first floor of the courthouse you will find the Clerk and Recorder's office, the District Attorney's Office and the County Treasurer's Office. On the second floor you will find the Combined Court Clerk's Office, a District Probation Office and the courtrooms. The courthouse has installed a wheelchair lift at the rear door to accommodate the handicapped.
Trial Court personnel consists of the Clerk of Court, three Court Judicial Assistants and a County Court Judge. A Spanish interpreter is also retained by the Courts to assist in official Court proceedings on regular County Court days (Tuesdays) and whenever needed in District Court matters.
Numerous legal forms may be purchased from the Clerk's office and some are available online by visiting the Forms section on the Colorado Courts Web Site. Informative brochures are provided for the public on subject matters related to court functions at the clerk's office.
